The market indicator for the corresponding sale of 2009 has been restated for comparison purposes.

The last sale of the 2010 summer season took place in Port Elizabeth today (15 June 2010) with 119 917kg's on offer.
There was a very good offering of fine quality summer kid mohair with quite a few competition bales being sold at R330.00 per kilogram, which had a significant effect on the kid's prices. Some of the kid offering was also being kept back, which resulted in a 69% sales clearance for kids.
The average market indicator eased by 3% from the previous sale to close on R99.70. This is a considerable 16% higher than the opening sale of the summer season and 21% higher than the corresponding sale of 2009.
Export figures for the first five months of the year is still 7% higher than 2009, with China now being the major player in the mohair market, showing the continuing effect of the global economy downturn on the Italian textile sector.
Compared to the previous sale, prices were as follows:
Kids (summer) up 15%
Young goats (summer) unchanged
Fine adults down 5%
Strong adults down 4%
Average down 3%
The offering for the summer season via the auctioning system was somewhat down from 2009, with more hair being traded outside the auction floor.
Prices for the 2010 summer season compared as follows with the corresponding period of 2009:
Kids (summer) down 16%
Young goats (summer) up 45%
Fine adults up 47%
Strong adults up 46%
Average up 29%
Exchange rate: R/$ = R7.64 R/Euro = R9.38
The first sale of the winter season is scheduled for 24 August 2010.
