For Catalogue 12 of 2011 Previous auctions

The third sale of the 2011 winter season took place today (27 September 2011) with a large quantity (196 161kg's) on offer.

An unstable currency created a difficult trading environment and the two topmakers were the most active in the market, with greasy buyers taking up a small percentage of the offering. Buyers struggled to maintain price levels throughout the duration of the sale.

The performance of the young goat's sector was once again affected by short hair on offer.

Although the sales clearance was 88%, aftersales concluded after the sale will push up the sales percentage considerably.

Uncertainty from the major importing countries still has a negative impact on the mohair market.

The average market indicator closed on R87.46, 2.8% down from the previous sale, but still 12% higher than the corresponding sale of 2010.

A highest price of R239.00 was paid for a bale of 25 micron good style winter kid mohair.

Compared to the previous sale, prices were as follows:

Kids (winter) down 4.2%

Young goats (winter) down 10.7%

Fine adults down 5%

Strong adults down 1.9%

Average down 2.8%

Exchange rate: R/$ = R7.83 R/Euro = R10.66

The fourth sale of the winter season is scheduled for 11 October 2011. Issued by Mohair South Africa Tel. (041) 487 1386 e-mail: info@mohair.co.za
